As 2025 begins, our Community Conservation Team (CCT) continues to face daunting challenges. Extreme weather conditions and increasing poaching pressure have made their mission more arduous than ever. Yet, step by step, they press forwarddismantling traps, destroying poaching camps, and safeguarding life deep in the forest.

Harsh Weather, Grueling Patrols

In the first months of the year, unpredictable weather has made patrols even more demanding. Freezing temperatures, unseasonal downpours, and strong winds toppling trees have created obstacles at every turn. The relentless conditions leave the team soaked, their meals cold, yet their resolve remains unshaken.

Despite these challenges, the CCT has persevered. In just Q1, they have patrolled 230 km of forest terrain, dedicating 134 hours to ensuring the safety of wildlife—undaunted by the dangers they encounter.

Poaching Pressure and Climate Change

Patrol findings reveal a worrying surge in illegal hunting activity. A sharp increase in snares, particularly wire traps and steel-jaw traps, poses a severe threat, causing fatal injuries to wildlife.

Meanwhile, climate change is compounding the problem. Unstable weather patterns not only affect patrol operations but also disrupt wildlife migration and behaviors, making animals more vulnerable to hunters.

Over 400 Traps Removed, Poaching Camps Destroyed

Despite these immense challenges, our CCT achieved remarkable results in Q1/2025:

  • 406 traps removed, reducing threats to endangered wildlife
  • 6 poaching camps dismantled, disrupting illegal hunting networks
  • 1 homemade firearm confiscated, minimizing risks of wildlife poaching

These figures stand as a testament to the relentless dedication of our CCT in protecting the forest.

CCT Marches On—Your Support is Needed

To sustain their efforts, CCT needs the support of the community. Worn-out boots, drenched clothing, and freezing nights in the forest cannot break their determination—but they need resources to keep going.

You can stand with our CCT by:

  • Providing financial or equipment support to improve their working conditions.
  • Spreading awareness to strengthen community action against wildlife crime.
  • Volunteering or offering expertise to contribute to conservation efforts.

Every contribution brings us closer to a safer future for nature. Join WildAct in empowering those who dedicate their lives to protecting our forests!
